Dating back to 1993, veteran emcee Guru has been educating Hip Hop fans about his love of Jazz music through the Jazzmatazz series. The releases have featured rappers such as Kool Keith, J Dilla and Big Shug as well as Jazz legends like Roy Ayers, Donald Byrd and Isaac Hayes.

After the first three volumes were released through EMI Records, the same label as Guru's then-group Gang Starr, the Jazzmatazz series has gone independent to the emcee's 7 Grand Records since 2004.

This February, Guru and new production partner Solar will release Jazzmatazz: The Timebomb/Back To The Future mixtape. Of the project, Guru said, "Since the inception of Jazzmatazz, one of our main focuses has been to create music for every generation, for the music lover. The Jazzmatazz series has always been about charting new territories, blurring genre lines, and collaborating with artists to create music that's timeless and relevant."

Hosted by legendary New York '90s mixtape icon DJ Doo Wop, the mixtape also will feature Zion I, Blue Scholars, Damien Marley and another veteran emcee from Guru's hometown of Boston, Mr. Lif. 7 Grand is planning this to be the first of several releases in 2008.
