Tupac Vs. Biggie

Yesterday June 16th marked what would have been the 40th Birthday of TuPac Shakur. It is so crazy to think that 13 years has gone since his passing. I also think of Biggie and the fact that his life was taken too soon. Both of these men were the realist rappers ever to bless the rap game, with their lives taken in the prime of their careers. For years, many people debated who was the better rapper; Tupac or Biggie. With different styles and each holding a different presence; it is undeniable that these two men were both the best at what they did.

First off, let me touch on the man, the myth, the legend; Tupac Shakur. Now Pac was not only one of the hardest rappers in his time, but the man was one of the most intelligent men I ever heard speak. When Tupac did an interview he always drew you in. Even though he spit that knowledge sh!t, Pac had that side to him where he just had to speak his mind and normally that is what got him in trouble. As far as his music; that man was amazing to me. Pac had you thinking with songs like "Brenda got a baby" and had you bumping "California Love" in your cars. Whatever he did he put his all into it. Even when he did movies Pac became the characters he portrayed. With movies like Juice and Poetic Justice, Tupac was not only multi-talented but he was also what I like to call Thug Sexy.

Now let’s head to Brooklyn where everyone is loving Big Poppa. No lie, the first time I saw Biggie I was like “hot damn”, but after I heard him spit “ It was all a dream I use to read Word Up! magazine, Salt n Pepa, Heavy D up in the limousine…” the opening lyrics to his first hit "Juicy" I knew this man had something special. Biggie was the smooth rapper, and the passion lied in his voice and delivery. The man could just chill sitting in a big a$$ chair and rap some of the coldest lyrics that you ever heard. Working with his boy the remix king Sean “Diddy” Combs, Biggie killed the beats to popular ol school songs and made them more popular in the 90’s. Biggie was in my opinion the real overweight lover, with connections to Lil Kim, Faith Evans, Charlie Baltimore and heaven knows who else. Big really captured the ladies with his ladies hip hop anthem "One More Chance". Where he knew what we wanted and was willing to give it to us; the key was we just had to ask the right way.

These two remarkable men just got mixed up in sh!t that was beyond them. Tupac died on September 13, 1996 and 6 months later on March 9, 1997 Biggie lost his life. Both men left incredible legacies not only to the hip-hop community, but to our society as a whole. Established by both the mothers of the slain men; The Tupac Shakur Foundation for the Arts located here in Atlanta, and Christopher Wallace Foundation are geared to guiding inner city youths in a positive direction. There is just no comparison on their skills, they both out-shined everyone else that tried to compete. They both were on a level on their own. I think these two men wherever they are, are proud that their legacy still carries on a decade after their passing and will continue with the progressive evolution of Real Hip Hop; because to be honest it isn't going anywhere.
