What type of defense team admits to the crime that you are on trial for?

Remy Ma's lawyer Ivan Fisher states the shooting was accidental. He claims Remy and Makeda Barnes-Joseph were struggling over the gun and it went off. Before the lawyer had said that, Remy never admitted to doing the shooting!

They even gave the prosecution an angle to go on. The prosecution claims, if the shooting was accidental, then why did she flee the scene and hid out at a friends house without calling the ambulance?

Remy is facing 25 years if convicted and her lawyer just seemed to have shot her in the foot!
