AZ Interview!!!

by Profit |

As promised, I got to chop it up with the one and only AZ. Also as promised, I asked the questions that were submitted.

We talked about his new album, Undeniable. His thoughts on southern rap, New York
hip hop, and Nas' new album title.

Enjoy the read!

Profit: What's good?

AZ: I just been tryin to keep it goin' album after album.

I let your fans submit questions they had for you since the album is for the fans anyway.

Let's do it.

People say New York hip-hop is not what it once was. How do you feel about that?

True indeed! There's been a lot of bullsh*t coming out and I'm trying to take it back to the essence, you know?

How do you feel about what seems to be a Southern rap explosion and the South taking over the airwaves and video stations?

It's a good look. Everybody needs to eat. I'm not biased when it comes to that. It's a good look for the South. I want everybody to eat.

You got any track with Nas on the album?

Nah...no Nas this time. He's doin' him and I'm goin' me. There's no bad blood between us. But everybody's grown and in their own zone this time.

Who did you get to feature on the album?

I wanted to do how they did back in the day. I want to bring the East coast back to the surface. I brought myself to the table. I really don't have any quest appearances. I have Ray J., but he's not a rapper. I got Amil on a hook on the joing. You won't be dissatisfied.

Was there anyone you wanted to get on the album but didn't?

It's a couple cats I wanted to vibe with, but I want to step up first. But there are a few cats I wanna link up with.

You droppin any names?

We can get Luda, Jada, just to name a few.

What's your relationship like with Nas?

We grown now. He's doin' him and I'm doin' me. Like I said, ain't no bad blood, but we [are] two different individuals.

What's your opinion of Nas' new album title?

I know the cat. I know he's got a science behind it. I ain't tryin to knock him right now. Nigger is what it is. We took that name so it's gonna get used for the white person to feel they're superior at the end of the day. I just know he has a science behind it.

What's the best single line you ever heard someone spit?

[Laughs] What's the best line? That's a hard muthaf**kin question! Let me think, it has to be a Biggie quote. It's gotta be when B.I.G. said, "Chickens cluckin in my bathroom f*ckin" [Laughs].

What's your favorite line you ever spit?

Wow...[Pause] Visualizing the realism of life.

What's your relationship like iwth Cormega? Any chance of an album with him?

Me and Mega, we cool. That's good money right there. I'm here when it comes to a song. I don't know about an album.

With album sales being the way they are, the artists are going to reach their own fans no matter what. Do you feel you're only going to reach your fan base, or do you feel you are going to reach more listeners than that?

I think I have the ability to reach more. I don't think I'll have a problem reaching AZ's fans because I am gving them what they want. That's why I call it "Undeniable". I feel my fans are gonna speak to other people and that's how I'll move on.

Any last words for the readers?

Undeniable. April 1st. Go get it. It's serious!
