As promised, I had the chance to chop it up with Fly Society's own Curren$y a.k.a. Fly Spitta.

He left the Young Money camp a little over a week ago and the man's got plans!!

Curren$y spoke a little about his decision to leave Young Money, his upcoming mixtapes and his future plans for himself and Fly Society.

Enjoy the read, consider it a late Christmas gift!!

Profit: Aight, we gon jump right into it. No more Young Money, no more Cash Money. What was the reason you decided to break away?

Curren$y: I ain’t see nothing coming out of there. I had been on Young Money for like 4 years. We had did the “Where The Cash At Video”, you know, that was cool. That alone was a green screen video. I didn’t feel like, in that situation I was getting the proper push that it was gon take for me to have the career I planned on havin, and self preservation is the first rule, the first true instinct. So in order to keep everything how I need it to be and where I see myself going, I had to separate myself in hopes to find another situation, which I know won’t be that hard. The fact is, I’m gon keep on doing my own thing until the majors come knockin.

Do you feel that you got the recognition you deserved while you were with Young Money?

People were checking for me. People were giving me my props. I think that with the direction I was trying to go with my music, I wasn’t in a situation where I was going to be able to do that.

I feel you. At the end of the day, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Right, that’s the whole point with the music, in any rhyme, in any song, you have to be able to do what you wanna do. You gotta do the things that you wanna do. A lot of people have mixed feelings about my decision. Some people feel that it was a bad move. It was a move I had to make. I don’t care about what anyone else thinks. Cause at the end of the day, I can only blame myself for anything. I can only credit myself for anything that I do, feel me? Whatever position I end up in is due to me, not anybody else. That’s the best thing right there. I don’t wanna be able to point fingers. I’ve been in enough situations where things fell through. Right now, I’m doing what I want to do. It’s gonna be rough, but I’m gonna get in the position where I’m supposed to be. I’ve got a good amount of fans that really know what I really do and I gotta do it for them.

I feel it cause I’m one of them.

It’s fans of me that have never heard of “Life At 30,000 Feet” and that was directly from me. That was exactly what I wanted to do. I picked the beats I wanted. That was a mixtape that nobody ever imagined a southern artist on some of them beats that I’m on.

I will tell you this. When I heard that, Bone Thugs N Harmony, “For The Love of Money” beat on “Smoke And Maintain”, I was blew back! Me being from Cleveland, that just made me love it that much more.

It’s so much that I wanna do and now is the time. I can’t keep waiting, right now is the time. I gotta go.

In the era of diss track and all that other bullsh*t that’s coming out, do you have any beef with Wayne and Young Money at all?

Nah, everything is everything. I got love for everybody. If you worked at some law firm and it’s not what you wanna do, and you gotta quit. And you got no problem with the main partners at the law firm or nothing like that. It’s just that that’s not the spot for you. Now for me, I’m trying to get my money and hope that everybody keep getting theirs. It’s a beautiful thing. I was just ready for my turn you know?

I understand that. Do you plan on releasing any of the songs you recorded with Young Money?

There’s all kinds of legalities that will follow after that. I got a lot of music that I recorded solo. In fact, I am going to release some of those songs on “Music You Can Fly To the Directors Cut”. That’s gonna be a digital album. I really see that I have people listening to me through the internet. Right now I’m in the process of reaching out to producers and getting agreements because things are on the up and up.

Speaking of mixtapes, what mixtapes you got coming out soon?

Me and DJ Smallz are doing ‘Independence Day’. I came up with the title after I put the statement up on Myspace that I wasn’t gonna be with them [Young Money] no more. All the tracks been sent to him. I’m just waiting on him to finish hosting it. I plan on having that on the streets before December is up maybe the first week of January. But it will definitely be out. I went to the studio last night and recorded one more track for ‘Independence Day’, but I may have to force that one. I’m in the studio everyday. But that one from last night, it’s gotta go on there. I been poppin some of them up there on the Myspace. Like right now I got Props to The Tribe on there. I been kinda sittin on that one for the mixtape but it was too hot so I had to force it on there…It’s people that appreciate what I’m doing. I can’t stop, I’m not gon change and I’m just gon do this until it gets where it’s supposed to get. People say it’s gon get tough, but that deal is gonna come through.

Are you in any talks with any labels?

I’m talking back and forth to some people. But I can’t even speak cause that makes some fall back. I am talking but I just can’t name names. When the right one comes with the right offer then I’ll come out and announce, “This is Curren$y, the Hot Spitta/Fly Society/ such and such”. I got no problem with the Indie grind too cause that’s how you make the cheese. I’m thinking of doing one of these Indie deals for an album. I mean, I rap my ass off I can just make another album all day. I could make that $4 to $7 an album. I know that $7 an album is a myth, but sh*t, I know that $4 isn’t. I sell 100,000 [units] at $4 an album, sh*t that’s $400,000 right there! This is the fun part right here.

With all the downloading, it seems like independent is the way to go anyway.

Right. If you in it for money, then independent is the best way to go. See my thing is, I got love and appreciation for the game. The same time I turn a deal down, the same time I take one because I feel I need to get out to a certain amount of people. I know there are people that really with me even if I am on an independent track. They will go where they need to go to find my sh*t and pick it up anyway. But at the same time, I would love to have the major brand.

Everybody would, but at the end of the day, it’s all about the dollar anyway.

But you have to have a love for the game to. You have to have a balance.

I ain’t even gonna ask who you would like to sign to cause I don’t wanna put that in the air. So…what’s the next move for Fly Society?

I got two different things going. I got Fly Society Entertainment, that’s the label. I got Fly Society West, that’s the label started up Terrance Kennedy (T.K.) part of the Ice Cream street team most people know him. I got the clothing division, where I am about to sign a deal through a brand, I don’t wanna say the name yet until we set and everything. It will probably be mass produced by Spring[2008]for a Summer[2008] launch. I got some exclusive pieces in some boutiques scattered around the country. I got a couple of shirts, a couple of jackets, a couple of hats. I also got the Fly Society skateboard decks.

Do you still mess around with the skateboarding?

I do that when I get a chance, but I’ve been focusing on the music now. I been on the scene at some skateboard shows, some demo shows. I just can’t afford no freak injuries right now. When I’m trying to get a deal, I can’t go in an office with one tooth missing cause I done smacked my sh*t on a curb somewhere [laughs].

The song you did “Your Direction” (featured in the video series, “On The Bus”) will the studio version of that song ever be released?

That’s one of the songs I will be able to release because my dude did the track. That song was me straight up and down. I may shoot a real video for that track. People still talk about that song. You know, it’s old news to me. A lot of people still talk about that record and that’s the reason why I will try to do something with it.

That song was so ill. When it started off, you ain’t know what to expect, and by the time it hit the third verse it was crazy.

I’m glad you feel like that. That’s the kind of sh*t I wanna do, that’s the kind of sh*t I wanna get out. That’s why we even havin this interview right now because of the moves I’m making. That’s why I’m making the moves cause I know I got all that kind of sh*t that ain’t getting where it’s supposed to get. You gotta make waves to make bread.

You got any last words for the readers? Anything you want to get out there?

Man…www.myspace.com/flyspitta is your source for fly music forever and ever and ever. Deal or no deal, I promise, I will never stop, ever.

Hit up Curren$y's Myspace and be on the lookout for the new mixtapes!
