Wake-Up Call

It was just a week ago when I titled the blog R.I.P Dr. Donda West. We all know that Ms. West did not die a violent death, but it still pulls at the strings of people's hearts. Now here I am eight days later, typing another R.I.P. entry. Although I didn't know Sean Taylor, I see that I was a lot like him.

He entered into the NFL at 21 years old and was acting as any 21 year old would. Can you imagine having a nice amount of money at 21 years old? Can you imagine the responsiblity it would bring? Can you imagine at 21 years old trying to be that responsible? I know I can't. Any extra money I got at 21 was headed straight to the bar cash register.

Even though Sean had some problems both on and off the field, he was starting to turn around. Some speculate it was the birth of his 18 month old daughter, Jackie. I think it was maturity and the people he surrounded himself with on the Redskins team.

My heart goes out to the Taylor family in this time of their loss. My heart also goes out to any family that has had a home invasion as Sean did. It's sad when our home is not even safe anymore. It's sad that we have to put multiple locks on the doors, bars on the windows and live like we are in jail in order to feel safe.

To put it plain and simple, this shit has to stop. This is my P.S.A. to all my blog viewers:

Do what you have to in order to protect your home and family. I don't condone unnecessary violence, but if the police and all the precautions we take to keep us safe doesn't work, then by any means necessary, protect yourself.
